"Giving back to the community" is a familiar phrase to most of us.  And that's a good thing.  We soon recognized that we at Silver Creek Engineering were fortunate to be a part of the business community here in Indianapolis, Indiana, and decided that we would take an active role in improving that community, in whatever small way might open to us.  Since that decision, Silver Creek and its employees have been involved on personal, professional, and financial levels.  Why are we telling you this? Because we're proud of the decision and the employees that continue to implement it by requesting donations to specific charities or pledges for charitable walks, dances, etc. that they participate in on their own time.  Many of our contributions are one-time donations in response to our employees' requests.  However, in addition to those, we have also made longterm commitments to several local, national, and international organizations:

Engineering Ministries International is an organization of design professionals who donate time, money and talent to support worthy projects throughout the world.  In addition to a continuing monthly financial donation, Silver Creek Engineering donated the services of its staff in 1995 to provide the structural design for an eye clinic to serve youth in India.  Steve Kessinger traveled to India with other design professionals to obtain the information needed to design the clinic.  The structural systems were then designed in our office by Steve and a team of Silver Creek employees.

The Cowboy Motorsports Team
Silver Creek Engineering has sponsored several youth soccer teams and Kevin Hazel has given much of his time to coach youth soccer and serve on the board of the Speedway Youth Soccer Club.
In 2007, Silver Creek made a commitment to sponsor three young Nicaraguan men who are pursuing vocational and university degrees with the assistance of Nicaragua Resource Network (NRN), a nonprofit volunteer organization, whose "mission is to make a significant impact on the lives of impoverished children and families in Nicaragua by providing for basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter, as well as medical and educational needs."
Our staff members go beyond the design process to participate in local Habitat for Humanity home building projects.  Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live.   Click on Beyond The Scope to see photos of our employees working on a local Habitat home.

In the spirit of fostering the advancement of our engineering profession Silver Creek recently sponsored a Baja SAE® Series competition team by donating transmission parts.  "Cowboy Motorsports" from the University of Wyoming placed 19th in a field of 100.  To learn more, click on Engineering Community Involvement.
As structural engineers, we recognize how important it is to begin with a strong foundation.  This is true for buildings and it's true for lives.  That's why Silver Creek Engineering supports Steve Kessinger's participation as chair of the Young Children, Priority One Committee of the Downtown Indianapolis Chapter of Kiwanis International.  He has volunteered one hour a week in the classroom at Charity Dye for the past fourteen years.  To learn more, click on Foundations For The Future.
One of our long-running traditions at Silver Creek takes place at Christmas time when volunteers from our staff organize the sponsorship of a family or families who need assistance.  In addition to Silver Creek's financial contribution, employees and their families enjoy donating time and money to shop, wrap, and deliver gifts and food a few days before Christmas.
That's A Wrap!
Two of our employees, Graeme Sharpe and Kevin Sumner, volunteered their time to help create rain gardens at two local elementary schools.  The Indianapolis American Society of Civil Engineers Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE/EWRI) installs rain gardens at local schools to help our communities learn more about the role that infrastructure plays in their lives and how it interacts with our environment.  Click on Rain Gardens to learn more about this effort.
